Where You Bank Matters

Why We Give Back. Without you, there would be no ‘US’! Our long term success would NOT be possible without a vibrant community. Did you know Ulster Savings is 1 of 449 remaining mutual savings banks in the United States? In New York State, we are 1 of only 26 remaining mutual savings banks. What does that mean? Unlike big banks, mutual savings banks have no stockholders, therefore our profits stay local and are reinvested back into the community in a variety of ways

Where We Give. We support non-profit organizations in the communities we serve, with an emphasis on helping causes our employees are directly engaged with. The majority of our management team serves on local non-profit and economic development boards and employees donate their time and effort to various causes throughout the Hudson Valley.

Overall Impact. Ulster Savings is a leader in charitable giving year after year. Ulster Savings gives back in two ways-through the bank’s community donations program and also through its Charitable Foundation.

We are proud of our efforts and the significant impact we have made in the communities we serve. Helping community changes lives for the better.

Last year alone (2022), Ulster Savings was able to donate over $409,774 to the community we love and call home!

The bank and its foundation together have donated over $14.5 million dollars since the foundation’s formation in honor of the bank’s 150th anniversary in 2001.

Community Matters to US.

With deep roots in the Hudson Valley, we understand the value of caring about the communities we serve. Supporting local is at the heart of everything we do and no local community bank does it better than US. Whether it’s through monetary donations, collecting needed items, or volunteering our time.

Poughkeepsie Street Clean-up

A group of thoughtful people set out in Poughkeepsie this past Saturday to clean the streets, sidewalks, local parks, as well as the Fallkill Creek. We are proud to say that among them were two of our Branch Supervisors; Marlee Smith from Poughkeepsie and Andrew Fauci from Hyde Park. Great job guys!

Family Services Donation

Our Burnett Boulevard, Poughkeepsie branch dropped off winter gloves, scarves, and mittens that were collected during the holidays to Family Services in Poughkeepsie. They met with Whitney Humphrey, Vice President of Community Programs of Family Services. Whitney said there was a great need for these items, especially for young people. She expressed how grateful the organization was for the generous donations collected by customers and staff at the bank. Annual Winter Coat Drive

Now that our Annual Winter Coat Drive has ended, we would like to say thank you to all of our customers and employees who participated in this worthy cause. As you can see, we managed to collect lots of coats. In fact, we collected well over 150 bags of coats in total! Special thanks to our Facilities Team, Matt, John Wayne, Joe, and John for delivering them, and thank you to everyone at Q92 who helped US out.

There IS Such a Thing as a Free Lunch

As another of our 170 Acts of Kindness, we provided lunch to all staff and volunteers participating in Project Santa at the People’s Place in Kingston. The delicious lunch came from Frank Guido’s Little Italy. Every December, the People’s Place gifts Ulster County children with a package containing toys, board games, books, stocking stuffers, and winter weather clothing. This effort is funded through their Celebrate Santa event held during the summer, financial donations from the community, and donations of new toys, board games, and winter clothing. Pictured are bank employees Dulce Ward and Tammy Gillon from the HR Department.

Treats for Troops

Using Ulster Savings gift cards, we purchased and donated three bags of food and socks to the Castle Point VA Medical Center through Straub, Catalano, and Halvey Funeral Home's "Treats for Troops" drive. Also included were 30 signed holiday cards. Spreading Kindness and Cheer at the Snowflake Festival

We were proud to be a major sponsor of this year's Kingston Snowflake Festival. We continued spreading kindness with 25 Ulster Savings Bank gift cards throughout the evening. Festival volunteer Fatimah Franklin was one of the lucky recipients of a gift card presented by president and CEO Bill Calderara.

Thanksgiving Day Kindness

On Thanksgiving Day our CEO Bill Calderera dropped off a few prepaid debit cards to give out to community members in need at the Spread the Love Thanksgiving event held by the Center 4 Creative Education. Bill is pictured with the Center's Board Member Tracy Leman and volunteer Jay from Energy Dance Company.

Free Gas for Some Lucky Folks

We love surprising folks at the pump with a free fill up, especially right before Thanksgiving Day.

Helping Spread Christmas Kindness for Kids in Red Hook

As one of our 170 Acts of Kindness our Red Hook branch donated a $250 gift card to the VFW Auxiliary and the American Cruisers Motorcycle Club. They do a Christmas party each year in Red Hook at the VFW. Each child that comes to the party gets a gift, snacks, and a chance to chat with Santa. Last year they gave away over 100 gifts, including bikes, games, and even a TV. When branch manager Melissa Morrison was speaking with them at another event, they mentioned that they were low on funds this year to purchase the gifts (they rely on donations and fundraisers for the money to purchase the gifts) and were worried about having to turn kids away. They were so grateful to receive the gift card! The event will be on December 19 with Melissa and her team being there to help out.
