Where You Bank Matters

Why We Give Back. Without you, there would be no ‘US’! Our long term success would NOT be possible without a vibrant community. Did you know Ulster Savings is 1 of 449 remaining mutual savings banks in the United States? In New York State, we are 1 of only 26 remaining mutual savings banks. What does that mean? Unlike big banks, mutual savings banks have no stockholders, therefore our profits stay local and are reinvested back into the community in a variety of ways

Where We Give. We support non-profit organizations in the communities we serve, with an emphasis on helping causes our employees are directly engaged with. The majority of our management team serves on local non-profit and economic development boards and employees donate their time and effort to various causes throughout the Hudson Valley.

Overall Impact. Ulster Savings is a leader in charitable giving year after year. Ulster Savings gives back in two ways-through the bank’s community donations program and also through its Charitable Foundation.

We are proud of our efforts and the significant impact we have made in the communities we serve. Helping community changes lives for the better.

Last year alone (2022), Ulster Savings was able to donate over $409,774 to the community we love and call home!

The bank and its foundation together have donated over $14.5 million dollars since the foundation’s formation in honor of the bank’s 150th anniversary in 2001.

Community Matters to US.

With deep roots in the Hudson Valley, we understand the value of caring about the communities we serve. Supporting local is at the heart of everything we do and no local community bank does it better than US. Whether it’s through monetary donations, collecting needed items, or volunteering our time.

2022 Coat Drive

Our 2022 Winter Coat Drive was one of the most successful ever. We would like to thank all our customers and employees who participated in this worthy cause. We managed to collect lots of coats. In fact, we collected well over 80 bags of coats in total! Thank you also to the Rotary Club, who helped deliver them to local nonprofit organizations, and to Dutchess Outreach and Mental Health America for distributing them to those in need.

Shop Small and Win Big Winner

Kimberly Joy Giese Wilson was the winner of the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce's Shop Small and Win Big contest. She was presented a $500 gift card from us. When we asked her how she would spend it she told us she would order some kerosene to heat her home. At $7 per gallon she shared she wouldn’t be able to fill the tank but she was thankful she would be able to get a good delivery. Then to everyone’s surprise, USB President and CEO, Bill Calderara, presented her with an additional $500 gift card.

Toys for Tots Collection

Thank you to our community and staff for contributing new toys for this year’s Toys for Tots drive. We are incredibly grateful to our BSA department for organizing this fundraiser and sorting the bounty of toys we received. Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas.

Kingston Branch Community Appreciation Day

Ulster Savings Bank’s annual Community Appreciation Day was a huge success at our main headquarters at 180 Schwenk Dr., Kingston. Our community enjoyed refreshments and fun activities. Entertainment included Ricky the DJ, Jam N Draw Caricatures, and performances from The Dynamo Dogs, the Ballet School of Kingston, and the Catskill Ballet Theatre. We will also be collected recyclables (deposit bottles, old sneakers, and used ink cartridges) to support C.A.T.S, a local nonprofit that spays and neuters street cats. A big thank you to all employees who made the day extra special for our community.

Black Business Achievement Awards

The Ulster Chamber, in partnership with Ulster County Tourism, hosted the Inaugural Ulster County Black Business Achievement Awards and Community Connect on June 15. Ulster Savings Bank was the proud sponsor of the successful and well-received event. Everyone was invited to join in the free celebration at our headquarters at 180 Schwenk Drive as we honored black business and community leaders from the past, the present and the future. Congratulations to all of the 2022 Black Business Achievement Awards honorees!

Ulster County SPCA Donation

We had fun delivering supplies donated by our employees to our friends at the Ulster County SPCA. The non-profit was very grateful to us for the delivery. We are grateful to the UCSPCA for all they do to help the furry friends throughout our community.

There IS Such a Thing as a Free Lunch

As another of our 170 Acts of Kindness, we provided lunch to all staff and volunteers participating in Project Santa at the People’s Place in Kingston. The delicious lunch came from Frank Guido’s Little Italy. Every December, the People’s Place gifts Ulster County children with a package containing toys, board games, books, stocking stuffers, and winter weather clothing. This effort is funded through their Celebrate Santa event held during the summer, financial donations from the community, and donations of new toys, board games, and winter clothing. Pictured are bank employees Dulce Ward and Tammy Gillon from the HR Department.
