Stephen Prosser Celebrates Anniversary at Ulster Insurance Services

With a commercial insurance career spanning 37 years, Stephen J. Prosser joined the agency formerly known as RJ Ryan Insurance Inc. in 1993 -- which would become Ulster Insurance Services, Inc. (UIS) in 2000.
Before joining UIS, Stephen worked for Roland A. Augustine, Inc., where he had been employed since 1987. He holds professional designations as an Associate in Insurance Services (AIS) and Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI).
Stephen’s career at UIS has seen him grow from a commercial lines rater to Marketing Manager, later moving up to the role of Commercial Lines Manager. In 2013, Stephen became the agency's Assistant Vice President (AVP).
“Becoming AVP was one of the highlights of my time here,” said Stephen. “One of the things I love about the business is the network of relationships you build and develop with your carriers and marketing reps over time. This position lets me focus on helping to evaluate our customers’ risks, investigate and negotiate the risks with that network, and develop unique and personalized solutions for our insureds.”
As a math major, commercial insurance's analytical and critical thinking components appealed to Stephen early on. He also values the collaborative environment he shares with his co-workers – some of whom he has worked with at UIS for 15-20 years.
“Ulster Savings Bank (UIS’ parent organization) is a tremendous company to work for. We have an aspirational motto: "Every client feels like they are family, so they come back with theirs,” said Stephen. “And that is what it feels like here – one big family. “
And speaking of family – anecdotally – Stephen’s sister Susan began her banking career at Ulster Savings Bank when she was seventeen.
“It must run in the family,” quipped Stephen.
Speaking of running, Stephen is an avid runner and sports fan. This has fed his community involvement spirit, and he has served as coach for the Kingston Soccer League and as an assistant coach for youth hockey at the Saugerties Kiwanis Ice Arena.
He also served as the Vice Chair of the Board for two years for the John A. Coleman Catholic High School in Kingston, NY.
